1. About RootkitBuster
========================================================================

   Malicious software called rootkits can manipulate the components of
   the Microsoft Windows operating system to conceal how they harm you.
   Rootkits can hide drivers, processes, and registry entries from tools
   that use common system application programming interfaces (APIs).

   Trend Micro RootkitBuster scans hidden files, registry entries, 
   processes, drivers, services, ports, and the master boot record (MBR) 
   to identify and remove rootkits.

4. System Requirements

   4.1 Hardware Requirements
   ---------------------------------------------------------------------

       a. Intel(TM) Pentium(TM) or compatible processor

       b. 256 MB of RAM (512 MB recommended)

       c. At least 50 MB of available disk space
          (plus 80 MB for the Cleanboot feature)


   4.2 Software Requirements

       a. Microsoft(TM) Windows(TM) 2000 Service Pack 4
          Professional / Server / Advance Server

       b. Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Standard / Web / Data Center /
          Enterprise Server

          or higher

       d. Microsoft Windows Vista

       e. Microsoft Windows 7

       Note: This version does not support 64-bit operating systems.


5. Installation / Removal
========================================================================

   5.1 Installation
   ---------------------------------------------------------------------

       You do not need to install RootkitBuster. To use the software,
       copy "RootkitBuster.exe" onto your computer, then double-click
       the file.


   5.2 Removing RootkitBuster
   ---------------------------------------------------------------------

       Delete the "RootkitBuster.exe" file to remove RootkitBuster from
       your computer.


6. Known Issues
========================================================================

   a. Though very unlikely, a scan might require so many system
      resources that the computer could crash. Please save and close
      any important files before starting a scan, just in case.

   b. Some hardware compatiblity issues may arise when using Cleanboot
      with the Gemini operating system, or with the ACPI hardware of
      an Apple MacBook.

   c. If malicious software has corrupted the Master Boot Record of your
      Windows operating system, then RootkitBuster cannot repair the
      damage using the Cleanboot feature.*

   d. If RootkitBuster resolves an attack on the Master Boot Record of
      your Window operating system without using the Cleanboot feature,
      then you must restart the computer before running another scan to
      ensure that RootkitBuster reports the correct results.*
